Krishna saw that the cowherd men of Vrindavan were preparing for a vedic ceremony to pacify Indra, the deva in charge of rainfall. He began to inquire with great honor and submission from elderly personalities like Nanda Maharaja and others. Since they remained silent on account of their thinking the child could not possibly understand the intricacies of performing the ceremony, the Boy went on preaching to them. In the end, He convinced them to stop the ceremony because worshipping the devas for material benefit can only be sanctioned by the Supreme Lord. Rather, they should worship the Lord and His devotees directly.
